Literary the pronunciation of the word “Strata” is Stray -da”

This is a classic casserole dish that is made up of layers of bread, cheese, meat or vegetables over which a mixture of eggs and milk are combined together as a custard. The mixture is then usually refrigerated before it is baked. Another simpler way of understanding this dish – Imagine a quiche /frittata and a bread pudding made love they would bear offsprings /a hybrid called a Strata. Apart from the obvious of this dish being beyond delicious, it just perfect for brunch since it’s best known to serve a large group.

Making “Protein Breakfast Strata Blast”

  • 4 medium sized baguettes – cubed

  • 1/2 cup of cooked -diced bacon
  • 1 cup of cooked minced beef
  • 6 cooked and sliced sausages
  • vegetable cooking oil /butter

  • Salt
  • Black pepper
  • cayenne chili powder

STEP 1: Making the custard:

In a large bowl, whisk eggs + spices together + milk until well combined. Take your cubed stale bread and add them to the custard and well soaked for at least 10 min.

STEP 2: Grease your casserole dish & start layering

Either using butter or vegetable oil, generously grease the casserole dish on both bottom and sides. For the base, add 1/3 of the soaked custard bread, 1/2 the layer of each ingredient until all is layered.

STEP 3: Pre heat your oven to 180° C.

Bake in the oven for 45 mins or until golden at the top. Once baked, let it cool for 10 mins.

STEP 4: Serve while still warm.

Am happy to report this tastes super magical, true story and I’m sticking to it. My sister is my palate witness. Strata can definitely be served hot or cold, it depends on your preference. Make sure to make time and try this recipe.
