To all the parents out there who are fans to my recipes, stay tuned I might just have one of those special recipes for you and the little ones. That’s if you don’t mind your kids eating lots of cheese and you’ve been looking to spice up – switch things up” with their lunches. I believe this recipe is one of the many fun snack ideas that your kids would appreciate if not love, out of the norm. Apart from the fact that my version is based on spices since am the biggest fan of spices,  you can definitely omit them to suit you and your kids’ needs. The rest of the ingredients are however kids friendly. It’s not only perfect for the kids, but suitable for brunch and its super easy to prep.

Remember, this recipe is not cast on stone. You are allowed to use whatever other edible ingredient/s you need to spice your breakfast or brunch meals. Involve the kids while prepping this, since it’s a fun way to bond too.

These are the few items you’ll need to bring this recipe to life.

Making “Cheesy baked egg toast

Prep time: 10 mins   Bake time: 20 mins  Total time: 30 mins

Serves = 3 pieces  Yields = 6 pieces

MAIN INGREDIENTS:

  • 6 slices of bread
  • 6 eggs at room temp
  • margarine
  • Sliced or grated cheddar cheese + Any other cheese.

Spices used:

  • 1/4 teaspoon of garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne chilli powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon of salt

Important tools used:

  • 1 Tablespoon
  • Baking tray
  • butter knife
  • an oven
  • Wire Rack

INSTRUCTIONS:

Step 1: Denting the slices of bread.

Preheat the oven to 120 C. Take your spoon, using the curved shape, start denting the middle part of each slice of bread to form a shallow pocket.

Step 2: Butter the bread

Butter the sides and the dented pocket of each slice. NB: The butter will help in preventing the egg from soaking up the bread before baking.

Step 3: Egg the bread

You can totally decide how you want your egg to appear on the bread. Some prefer to crack the egg directly into the bread slice, others like myself, prefer to crack each egg separately in a different bowl and lightly beat it, then pour it into the egg dent.

Step 4: Add spices -Optional

Step 5: Cheese it up.

Some like grated cheese sprinkled all over the sliced bread. Others prefer a sliced piece of cheese on each corner of the bread.

Step 6: Bake for 20 mins + cool = 10 mins

Make sure the oven has been preheated for 10 mins before baking it. Bake until all the cheese has melted and the egg is slightly giggly or well done depending on when you prefer.

Final outcome:

Sometimes I don’t like my egg well done, a little giggle with the yolk and seasoned well is super delicious. I know you must be thinking am crazy to eat “a somewhat raw egg”, but, if you haven’t tried it yet, you should then judge it later.

What else would you love to add to this mix? Please leave a comment below, I’d love to hear from you.

Muchos Love.

xx
