With the current rains here in Nairobi, Kenya and the chilly weather, the only other way we can keep warm is with the basic needs and hot chocolate. Not just any hot chocolate, but cookies and cream -hot chocolate. A while back I did a simple version of a marshmallow hot chocolate and you guy loved and devoured it with the help of comment, shares and likes. If you thought you missed out on that video, find it HERE.
Here’s is today’s video, do enjoy! #TastieDineRecipes
- 500 ml of whole milk /OR/ any other milk of choice
- 4 Tablespoons of dark alkalized cocoa powder
- 1/4 cup of whipping cream
- 6 pieces of oreo cookies
- Extra -oreo cookies – Garnish
Important tools needs:
- a sauce pan /OR/ Sufuria
- Star tip nozzle
- Piping bag
- Rolling pin
- Hand mixer
- Serving glass /OR/ Mason jar
- straws – Optional
- Heat from a stove
- Heart Sprinkles – Optional
Step 1: Prep the oreo cookies: – Take the 6 pieces of oreo cookies and place them inside a piping bag, close the bag and crush the oreos with the rolling pin until they are crumbly. Set them aside.
Step 2: Prep the hot chocolate mix – In a sufuria heated over medium heat, add in the milk + cocoa powder + crushed oreo cookies. Whisk continuously until the mix well blended together. Bring the milk mix to a simmer BUT NOT BROIL. Once bubbles begin to form around the sufuria, turn off the heat and let it sit for 2 mins before serving. This stage will help the hot chocolate thicken – JUST HOW I LIKE IT.
Step 3: Prep the whipping cream: – I did this part off camera, forgot to press record” In a narrow cup/glass, add in the whipping cream and whisk everything together for 3 mins until its thick enough. If you turn the cup upside down, the mixture shouldn’t fall off – that’s how to know its’ ready. Place the whipping cream into a piping bag fitted with a star shaped nozzle tip.
Step 4: Serve the hot chocolate in a glass of your choice, and leave a little room for the whipping cream at the top. Pipe out the whipping cream on top, garnish with either a crumbled oreo cookie or crushed cookie. I then added some color to the mix with red and pink heart shaped edible sprinkles as well as some tiny silver star sprinkles Add in a cute straw and enjoy.
