Fried oreos

Has it ever crossed your mind that you can actually deep fry one of your favorite desserts such as ice-cream, oreos, cheese cake, chocolate and others? Well, my curiosity got the best of me and today we start with the oreos. Talk about the best thing you can possible eat. Oreos on their own is basic, but when coated with a pancake batter then deep fried – OH! MY! it’s on a whole new delicious level, and within minutes you’ll have it ready to indulge with a warm glass of milk {..this is the Kalenjin in me talking} or a cup of hot chocolate, soul food all the way. Trust me we all need some soul food every now and then.

Prep time: 10 mins  Deep fry time: 15 mins   Total time: 25 mins

Yields: 18 fried oreos

Serves: 4 to 6 pax

Here’s what you’ll need:-

Main Ingredients:

  • 3 packs of oreos – each pack has 6 pcs
  • 1-1/2 cups of all purpose flour /OR/ Pancake mix
  • 2 Tablespoons of desiccated shredded coconut
  • 1 Tablespoon of castor – white sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 3 Tablespoons of vegetable cooking oil
  • 2 Cups of vegetable cooking oil – deep frying

Important tools used:

  • Heat proof spatula
  • mixing bowls
  • fork
  • Non-stick frying pan
  • Stove
  • Rubber spatula

Instructions:

Step 1: Over medium heat, Preheat oil in a frying pan. The oil should be hot enough to start smoking a little to know its ready for frying.

Step 2: Prep the pancake batter: – In a bowl, add in the egg + milk = Beat them together till well incorporated. Add in the oil + coconut + sugar + all the rest of the dry ingredients. Fold everything together till you get a very sticky lumpy batter.

NOTE: If you decide to use a PANCAKE MIX from a box, you don’t need to add baking powder and baking soda.

Step 3: Prep the oreos + Deep fry them: – With the help of a fork, dunk the each oreo piece into  the batter coat both sides and place them right in the preheated oil. Fry them for at least 1 min on each side until they are golden brown. Set them a side in a bowl with paper towels to drip off the excess oil.

NOTE:

*When coating them oreos, please don’t dunk them for a long time, they’ll become soggy and fall apart. You don’t want that.

*Have the oil hot enough before you prep the oreos in the batter.

Step 4: Let them cool for 5 mins

Step 5: OPTIONAL STEP! – Garnish them with sprinkled powdered sugar. Serve with your favorite drink. I always go with a tall glass of warm milk.

Deliciously crunchy on the outside but soft and fluffy on the inside. You’ve got to try this recipe, you’ll not eat the cookie by itself again. #TastieDineRecipes
