How to make “Honey glazed chicken chunks”

Prep time: 5 mins  Marinade time: 40 mins  Coat the chicken: 15 mins

Cook time: 12 mins  Glaze time: 8 mins

Total time:1 hour 20 mins

Yields: Enough for 3 persons

Main Ingredients:

  • 2 pieces of boneless chicken breasts
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 cup of corn starch/flour = coating
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons of garlic and ginger paste
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons of dark soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda = tenderization
  • 1/2 teaspoon of corn starch/flour

*Honey glazed sauce*

  • 2 Tablespoons of honey
  • 3 Tablespoons of sugar
  • 3 Tablespoons of water
  • 2-1/2 Tablespoons of dark soy sauce
  • 2 Tablespoons of hot and sweet ketchup
  • 1 Tablespoon of white vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons of corn flour/starch + 2 teaspoons of water = mix together

  • Sesame seeds

Step 1: Cut the chicken to bite size – About an inch thick, and set it aside.

Step 2: Prepare the marinade – as show on the video above and mix it well with the chicken chunks.

Step 3: Set the chicken aside to rest for 40 mins.

Step 4: Prepare the glazing sauce with the ingredients shown above. Mix well and set it aside.

Step 5: Coat the marinated chicken with corn flour, but first lightly spray water onto half of the corn flour then leave it for 10 seconds. The water will create tiny balls on the flour, and this will guide in adding crunch to the coated chicken. Add in the chicken and gently coat it well to avoid any clumping or them sticking together.

Step 6: Once coated, heat your oil over a large sauce pan or wok. I used a large wok pan in this part. Once the oil is hot and smoking, add the chicken one piece at a time as they gently fry and cook. Give each batch 2 to 3 mins.

Step 7: In a shallow sauce pan, heated over medium heat, pour in the honey sauce and cook it over low heat for like 3 mins while stirring. Add the corn starch mix (corn starch with water), while mixing continuously. This will help the sauce thicken to a syrup consistency. That’s what we are looking for. Once it thickens, leave it to cook on low heat for 3 more mins.

Step 8: Glaze and garnish – Add in the cooked chicken bites to the thickened honey sauce, gently coat them well, as it continuously heat up. Garnish with sesame seeds.

Step 9: Turn off heat, and serve with cooked white rice.

It maybe time consuming for the preparations but trust me, once you see the results, it will all be worth it and not to forget – super delicious.
