  You and I only need five steps to making homemade dinner rolls.These steps are based on:

  • Preparing the dough
  • First proofing / Rising
  • Divide and shape
  • Second proofing / Rising
  • Baking

If you’re new to bread baking, don’t be intimidated. Just follow these simple instructions and add just enough flour to achieve a soft dough that is only slightly sticky. I guarantee you will feel like a rock star in the kitchen when you pull these fluffy rolls out of your oven!

Shall we get started??

Making “No Knead Dinner Rolls

Prep time: 15 mins  Proofing / Rising time: 2 hours -45 mins  Bake time: 25 mins

Total time: 3 hours 25 mins

MAIN INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 Cups of flour
  • 140 ml of warm milk
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 2 teaspoons of sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon of active dry yeast
  • 50 g of softened butter
  • 1 egg at room temp
  • 1 egg for egg wash
  • 1/4 teaspoon
  • Vegetable oil
  • Extra flour

Important tools:

  • A casserole dish / Baking tray
  • Pastry brush
  • Clear cling foil
  • An oven

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Preparing the dough: -Activating the dry yeast.

Add the dry active yeast into the warm milk + sugar = Mix them together and leave it to activate for 5 mins in a warm area of your kitchen. Once its ready, it should smell boozing and formed a foam at the top. In a medium-sized bowl, mix the flour and salt together. Add the butter to the yeast mixture and mix them together. {At this stage the butter will not be fully mixed in. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix together to form a sticky dough.

2. First proofing /Rising of the dough.

In a different larger bowl, smear vegetable cooking oil all over the bowl – bottom and sides. Place the sticky dough to the bowl, and cover the bowl with a clear cling foil. Leave it to proof for 2 hours in a warm area of your kitchen to double in size and rise.

3. Divide and Shape.

Once the dough has doubled in size, “2 hours later”, Generously flour your kitchen countertop, place your risen dough on the surface and fold the dough into a half. Gently roll it into a thick log shape. Cut it out into 6 pieces. Take each piece, try making a circular shape dough of each piece.

4. Second Proofing / Rising.

Preheat the over to 190°C.Take out your casserole dish, smear it with vegetable oil both the bottom and sides. Place the round shaped dough on the dish. Cover the dish with a clear foil and allow it to rise in a warm area for 45 mins.

5. Bake the bread.

“After 45 mins” – Using the egg wash and the pastry brush, lightly brush the egg wash onto the buns- in order to get a golden brown finish. Bake them in the oven for 25 mins or until you get a golden brown finish at the top.

Once baked, here is how it should look like. As simple as that!!

Allow it to cool down for 10 mins before serving. Clearly, buns or dinner rolls are best served with hot soup or you and I can decide we need a ham sandwich of some sort. Hope am giving you some awesome ideas.
