Happy New Month to everybody.

I have been postponing to make donuts for the longest time, but over the weekend I got the courage to go ahead with the plan, since making them takes quite a while and lots of patience which I don’t have most of the time. It may not be the same way you cook your donuts but this being my first trial, they did come out quite well. Here is my version.

Making “simple donuts”.

Prep time: 30 mins  Cook time:  45 mins  

Serves: 4 pax

MAIN INGREDIENTS:

  • 4- 1/2 cups of self raising flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup of milk or buttermilk
  • 1 tsp of vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup of castor sugar
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 tsp of cardamom
  • 1/4 tsp of baking powder

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Mix all the wet ingredients into one bowl, together with the castor sugar and mix really well. Sieve in the flour and baking powder to the wet ingredients and combine till it forms a dough.

2. Cover it with a semi- dump kitchen cloth for 10 mins. You will notice after the 10 mins , the dough has slightly increased in volume thanks to the baking powder with a slight swell. Powder the dough with flour as well as on the surface you will need to roll it out.

3. Pre- heat a skillet/pan with vegetable oil on medium high. Use a donut cutter for the shapes or you can use an ice cream glass -like I did. NB: To make the middle hole, I just powdered my finger and made a tiny hole then stretched the rest of the dough.

4. Deep fry them, but avoid over-crowding. You will notice they will start to swell up. Cook them for 2 mins on each or until they turn golden brown.

5. Once done with frying, you can decide to coat them using different chocolates and sprinkles {that’s if you are sweet tooth kind of person} Unfortunately, I ‘m not.

Serve Immediately.

“The texture was of slight crunch on the outside and super soft on the inside.” 

Perfect for a morning breakfast or an afternoon snack.
